A. A.

Talking to Shepard Custom Cabinets is the first step. They will help you decide what you want from your custom cabinets. A great place to start, is to send us the dimensions of your rooms, either through sketches or architectural blueprints. Once we have determined the scope of the work required, we can give you a cost estimate. This will start the planning phase. We can help you make the final decisions about what you want.

B. Design Details & Consultation

After we have done our initial due diligence, and provided an estimate to you for the cost, we will start the design and consultation phase. We communicate with you by phone and email, and will also need to visit the site to take final measurements. This is where we finalize the design plans and estimate the time it will take to complete the project. We also create a complete list of supplies. This phase will determine the cost of the project.

C. Exact Drawings and Down Payment

This step will allow us to create a payment schedule and provide you with ample notice for any future payments. The payment schedule corresponds to the next phases of the project, including final plans, cabinet fabrication, as well as the final building.

After the planning phase is completed, your project will be added to our schedule once the down payment has been paid. Once the planning phase is complete, we will have drawings that include all necessary measurements and materials. One of the main reasons we have opted for these processes is due to the challenges that arise from changes once the fabrication starts. Once your give us the word, we being to fabricate your cabinets.

D. Building the Cabinets and Onsite Installation

This is where all the pieces come together. We start building and crafting your cabinets at our location in Anaheim. After the fabrication phase is complete, we will transport everything onto your property for final installation. When the entire project is completed, the final deposit is due. This usually takes between 4 and 8 weeks. Custom cabinets are made to order so the turnaround time will vary depending on the style and number of pieces you choose, as well as the labor time required for each piece.

Different styles of cabinet doors
It is crucial to choose the right cabinet door as it is the most prominent part of your cabinet. When choosing a cabinet door there are two classifications that will affect how your cabinet looks overall, the way that the door style, and how the door is attached to the cabinet frame. Each will have a large impact on the character of your cabinet.

Cabinet Door Attachments
A full-overlay cabinet door completely covers the front face of the cabinet, and consequently provides more storage space. Because the frame of the cabinet is one hundred percent covered, this one continuous low-profile surface between the cabinets which is extremely popular today.

Cabinets with inset doors have the door set into the frame, sitting fully flush when closed. At times you will see the hinges attached to the outside, and this requires precise work during the fabrication.

Partial overlay cabinets expose more of the cabinet frame with approximately 1″ to 2″.

The Differences in Cabinet Door Styles
The recessed panel door gives the cabinet a sleek, streamlined look. This design is popular in contemporary cabinets and offers many design options.

Frameless glass front cabinets are made with one glass pane and no dividing mullions.

Mullion frame doors have horizontal and vertical bars that break down the cabinet’s face into sections. The panes or sections have glass inserts so you can see the interior of the cabinet.

Cabinets with raised panel doors have a lifted central panel with a recessed border around it. Raised panel doors are a very popular and can be seen on classic to current day cabinets.

The slab cabinet door, or flat-panel door, is simply a single slab of lumber and is totally flat.

Handcrafted Bath Cabinets and Custom Vanities
A refined tidy bathroom can really help improve your quality of life, and by adding custom bath cabinetry you can really upgrade the aesthetics and add to the storage space. When you are thinking about the design of your custom cabinets and vanities, it is important to make a list with all your storage requirements. Do you need makeup storage built into your vanity? Are you a hoarder of bathroom items and would you like to have as much storage as possible? Do you need cabinet space to store your towels? After you have identified your needs, an expert cabinet maker at Shepard Custom Cabinets will help you design the perfect design.

To make the most of your space and renovate your bathroom, you can install a custom-made vanity. You can make your bathroom more functional and beautiful by creating storage solutions that are both creative and functional. You will feel calm and relaxed after a hectic day.

Handcrafted Custom Media Centers
In addition to custom cabinets, one the more popular pieces of furniture we build at Shepard Custom Cabinets is custom media centers, otherwise known as entertainment centers. A entertainment center houses your television, sound systems and video game consoles. Because your television is a central piece in your day to day living, many of our customers have found that this is a great opportunity to improve the aesthetic of their living space and get a custom-built entertainment center.

Ready-to-assemble (RTA), media centers that are often made of cheaper materials such as particleboard don’t last long. At Shepard Custom Cabinets we only use the best quality hard wood to build your custom media center, and this will make your media center look fantastic today, as well as stay looking great years into the future. Having an endless tangle of wires featured in the center of your living room can be distraction and an eyesore, so we can help you build your cabinets to accommodate them, and help you conceal that clutter.

Stains and Finishes
You can add character to your cabinet doors by choosing a finish. A finish is used to treat the surface of the cabinet to give it a desirable characteristics, such as improved protection, and alterations of it’s color and texture.

Waterborne finishes can be used to protect against scratches and damage. They are also non-toxic to the environment. Waterborne finishes are fast drying and can mirror the look of many other stains and finishes. If you like patterns of grains of your piece of wood and want to change the color, it is great choice.

Glaze finishes can add additional texture and color to the surface of your cabinets, and can be brushed right on top of cabinets that have been painted or stained. Glazing cabinets can give them a shiny look. It will also protect against moisture and damage. Painting your cabinets will completely hide the wood grains, and you can pretty much change it any color that you want. A popular option is to paint your cabinets flat white. There are a ton of options out there, and the expert craftsmen at Shepard Custom Cabinets are here to help, so give us a call today.
